Ģertrūdes Street cobblestone errors will cost half a million

The defects in Ģertrūdes Street caused by the construction contractor SIA "ReRe Vide" will be repaired by SIA "MRG Būve" for 475,945 euros, according to information in the electronic procurement system.

The repair of the defects in the section from Brīvības Street to Krišjāņa Barona Street will start this week, the Riga City Council's Department for Outdoors and Mobility said.

To avoid unnecessary inconvenience, the works will be carried out in smaller stages, the municipality said. The works are scheduled to be completed by the end of November this year.

As reported by LSM numerous times, in 2020, Ģertrūdes Street became known for having an appetite for consuming vehicles, gobbling up three innocent cars.

According to the municipality, the defects are related to non-compliance with the requirements of the Road Specifications in the construction of the street and pavement, such as unevenness, subsidence, poor quality joints, gaps between elements and their filling.

However, the street was opened to traffic for the convenience of the residents and business owners of Ģertrūdes Street as well as the passengers of trolleybus 1.

The contract with ReRe Vide for the renovation of Ģertrūdes Street was signed in 2022 and the total contract amount was EUR 1.36 million including VAT. The contract was terminated due to poor workmanship, and the municipality fined the builder for non-compliance with construction deadlines.

In order to remedy the defects and allow the street section to be put into operation, the municipality launched several tenders. The tender has now been concluded and the contract for the rectification of the defects has been awarded to "MRG Būve" Ltd for 475,945 euros including VAT.
