Low-floor tram service launched on line 7 in Rīga

On Tuesday, July 30, low-floor tram service was launched in Rīga from the center to Ķengarags on tram line 7, Latvian Radio reports.

This tram line has rebuilt stops, junctions, overhead lines, and landscaping.

The tram tracks on the more than 7-kilometer stretch between the Central Market and the Dole shopping center started to be rebuilt at the end of spring last year. However, the project, worth more than €22 million, did not go easily.

The low-floor trams were expected to open last Christmas or at the beginning of the new year, but failed to do so. The reason - the work underground was challenging, the builder told Latvian Radio in May. At the time, Rīga's public transport company Rīgas Satiksme predicted that the modern trams would start running to Ķengarags around Midsummer, but this also failed because the work on the substations had to be completed. The company promised to open low-floor trams at the beginning of August, and this target has now been met.
