Russian DJ has the plug pulled on his Rīga performance

Latvia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said August 2 it had added yet another Russian musical performer to its list of people who are not welcome in Latvia.

"On 2 August 2024, a decision was passed in accordance with Section 61, Paragraph two of the Immigration Law on the inclusion of a citizen of the Russian Federation, Denis Rublev, in the list of personae non grata in the Republic of Latvia. The ban on entering Latvia is imposed on the said person for an indefinite period of time," said a statement from the ministry.

The ban was imposed because Rublev has performed in Ukraine's occupied Crimea, "thereby supporting Russia's aggression against Ukraine" according to the ministry.

Denis Rublev was due to give a performance at the 'First Club' nightclub in Rīga on August 2. The same venue had another performance by a Russian singer cancelled for similar reasons a few days ago, so perhaps now they will stop booking supporters of Russia's war.

"This Friday, August 2nd, join us at First Club for an unforgettable night with our long-time friend, DJ Denis Rublev! Get ready for the hottest beats and the best vibes. Don’t forget your swimsuit—our pool is perfect for a splash! Let’s light up the night and make some amazing memories!" said advance publicity.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said it "calls on the organisers of concerts and other public events to always carefully ascertain the reputation and actions of any guest performers to be invited, abiding by and respecting Latvia’s principles-based support for the territorial integrity of Ukraine."
