Latvian Foreign Ministry repeats call not to go to Israel

As the security situation continues to escalate and there is a significant risk of escalation in the Middle East region, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterated its call on Latvian citizens not to travel to Israel in a release on August 6.

The Ministry calls on Latvians currently in Israel to follow developments in the situation and the recommendations of local security services. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly urges nationals who are traveling to Israel on a short-term basis to register in the Consular Register.

For security reasons, the national airline airBaltic has also canceled flights to and from Tel Aviv until August 11. More information: https://www.airbaltic.com

In view of the prevailing security situation in the region, as well as the escalation between Israel and Hizbullah in southern Lebanon, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs warns against travel to Lebanon at this time. Latvian nationals who are in Lebanon are urged to leave Lebanese territory as soon as possible.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also advises against all travel to Bangladesh in view of the violent unrest that began in mid-July this year and has spread beyond the capital Dhaka, the change of government, and the involvement of the armed forces in the crackdown on protests, according to information released by the Ministry. The MFA urges Latvians in Bangladesh not to go outdoors without essential reasons.

The Ministry urges people to inform their relatives of the security situation early and regularly and to register with the Consular Register, as major cities in Bangladesh have experienced deliberate disruptions to internet and mobile communications and temporary disruptions to rail services.
