First signs of fence in marshy areas on Latvian-Russian border

Floating supports are being installed on the Latvian-Russian border in the Ludza region to make it possible to install a fence in the marshy terrain, construction contractors Nordes būve Ltd. said in a release on July 16.

The floating abutment elements are manufactured in the production facilities of LT Betons Ltd and Skonto PREFAB Ltd and are designed specifically for this terrain and purpose. After the installation of the posts and fence sections, the barbed wire and gates will be installed.

Nordes būve Ltd has the right to build a total of 25 kilometers of fence and related objects in the territory of Balvi and Ludza municipalities, and since the beginning of May this year fence sections have already been installed on 11 kilometers. The work is expected to be fully completed by the end of the year.

The Latvian-Russian border fence is being built by "Valsts nekustamie īpašumi/VNĪ" (State Real Estate). VNĪ has concluded 16 contracts with 6 contractors to construct the fence and infrastructure along the entire length of the border. The construction of the border fence has been carried out since April by the contractors LLC Citrus Solutions, LLC HAGBERG Construction, LLC Nordes būve and the National Armed Forces (NBS).

The Latvian-Russian land border spans 283 kilometers. Priority sections are to be completed by the end of this year. The construction works are being carried out simultaneously in 6 parts.
